As per the estimates from 2020 to 2024, the share of e-commerce retail sales will be at 30% of total retail sales compared to the current percentage of 22%.

Amazon comes across as the No.1 retail brand in terms of valuation in 2021

As of 2021, Amazon was the most valuable retail brand globally; the valuation is almost 2.7X of Walmart, which is at No. 2 & equal to the sum of valuation of brands at No. 3 to No. 8. Clearly shows the dominance of Amazon, which is an e-commerce company, over others.

As per eMarketer & insiderintelligence.com on analysis of product category wise Retail Ecommerce sales of Amazon in US market, the top 3 categories are Computer & Consumer Electronics, Apparels & Books, music, video.

Moving our focus to retail stores, Seven-Eleven had the highest number of retail stores worldwide in 2020.



Closure of Retail Stores in H1 2020

Many retailers, especially those in the non-essential category, suffered financially as a result of the pandemic. With visitor numbers to retail locations and sales dropping dramatically, leading companies closed many physical stores.

As of mid-August 2020, the Spanish fast-fashion company Inditex announced closing around 1,000 of its retail stores worldwide. Inditex owns Zara, Pull & Bear, Massimo Dutti, Mango, and Bershka, among others.

Reduction in Stores for Luxury & Sportswear

Thus, we see a reduction in retail stores for most luxury, apparel, and sportswear brands worldwide. The below graph shows the % reduction in the total number of stores for each branch, with Macy's having a maximum of -6%.
